Wild Black: Top 5 photos of the week

While many people think the most beautiful animal species are those with the most color—such as birds with bright plumage, striped tigers, and vibrant, spotted butterflies, But wild black animals can be just as visually spectacular.

The black eagle is a bird of prey. Like all eagles, it is in the family Accipitridae and is the only member of the genus Ictinaetus. They soar over forests in the hilly regions of tropical and subtropical South and Southeast Asia, as well as southeastern China.

Enormous gray and white raptor that soars with wings held in a strong V-shape. In-flight note black and white underwing pattern, short tail. Juvenile is much browner and can be confused with Wedge-tailed Eagle, but note mostly pale and fairly short tail. Predominantly found along coastlines, as well as estuaries and inland waterways.

A slender, blackish medium-sized crow with a long bill. The grayish nape and sides form a paler collar that contrasts with the glossy black body. Primarily a scavenger, feeding on leftover rubbish from humans. Found in a wide range of habitats mostly around human habitation. Their call is a loud and harsh “Kaa Kaa Kaa.”
